All about Year 1!
We are glad to welcome your children to year one we will have a busy, fun learning year together. We have three adults in each class, there are three teachers, three teaching assistants and three apprentices. They are:
Emerald class: Mrs Wheeler (class teacher)
Coral Class: Miss Blake (class teacher)
Pearl Class: Mrs Cranmer (class teacher)
In Year 1 we learn English, Maths and Phonics every morning then in the afternoon we follow the IPC curriculum (International Primary Curriculum), which means that foundation subjects such as Science, DT, ICT and PE are taught through a topic. Our topics this year are All About Me, The Magic Toy Maker, All Dressed Up, Light and Dark and Insects and Flowers.
Please look at our curriculum maps below to get a more detailed view of what we are doing.
We enjoy reading in the year 1 and we read with our class adults in groups and individually. You will know when we have read because our adults will write a comment in our reading diaries. We bring home new books weekly, and really enjoy sharing with you at home. Please sign the reading dairies so we can collect stickers for our book marks.
We get homework every week it is will be given out on Fridays and is due in on Wednesdays , this will comprise of a piece of English, Maths and Topic. We are delighted to see all the terrific work you complete at home together.
We love doing PE outside and inside. Our PE days are usually on Mondays and Fridays but sometimes we have a special PE activity on another day. This means that we must need to have full PE kit in school every day. If your son or daughter wears earrings a please make sure that they can remove them themselves and if they have long hair, it needs to be tied up. We have a fantastic time playing games and dancing but need to keep them safe as well, thank you for your help with this.
Snack and Playtime
Everybody can bring in their own healthy snack or the school also a piece of delicious fruit to try if you would prefer, in year 1 we take them outside at break time when the children enjoy the fresh air.
The school uses a traffic light system to help reward behaviour, our aim is to keep the child on ‘ green’ we remind them daily that ‘It’s good to be Green’. Each time they reach a target for good behaviour they will receive a positive learning behaviour award, they are very proud of themselves.
Please come and see us for a chat, after school if you would like any more information from us.
