Transition to Secondary School

 

Moving on to Secondary School

Making the move from Year 6 to Year 7 is an exciting time: finding out about new teachers and all the subjects you will experience at your new school.

The secondary schools have been preparing various resources to help you make a successful move to Year 7 and some of the schools will have already sent you packs and information via post or email, for other schools information can be found on their school websites. Here on our school website is a summary of information that will be helpful to Year 6 pupils making the move to their new schools. Miss Retigan has also produced some transition packs which will give you further information.

 

 

 

James Hornsby

James Hornsby School are continuing to communicate with parents by email each week and share transition videos / activities. Pupils/ parents will have received:

  • A welcome to the family – Introduction video by staff and students (YouTube)
  • A Virtual Tour (YouTube)
  • General Transition Activities (spanning across 7 weeks until the end of term) and uploaded on the school website
  • Creation of a specific transition email (transition@jameshornsby.essex.sch.uk) for Q&A with parents / Year 6 students / for sharing of transition activities
  • Communication home regarding arrangement for purchasing uniform (school website)
  • Meet the English Department Video and English activities (YouTube and school website)
  • Meet the Maths Department Video and Maths Activities (YouTube and school website)
  • Meet the Science Department Video and Science Activities (YouTube and school website)

Over the next four weeks you will receive videos and activities for all remaining departments in the school, an updated induction handbook (with all key parent / student information) and communication regarding their college allocations and arrangements for September (when known).

Woodlands School

Woodlands School have created a specific area on their school website that they would like you to have a look at. There is a large content of information for transition and they will have added more live features as time goes on.

The Billericay School

The Billericay School are creating booklets/video presentations for Year 6 students which we will publish to parents as part of an Induction Pack – this pack can also be found on the school website at the link below.

Basildon Lower Academy

Transition days were planned for the 7th & 8th July, and they are currently looking at the best and most appropriate ways to provide a transition programme for those Year 6 students coming to the Academies in September.

Basildon Academy are liaising with parents to collate some frequently asked questions and intend to respond via video message to ensure that parent/ carer concerns are addressed.
