Attendance

Important information - Term time holidays

Improving school attendance is a key priority for all schools across Essex. Where families choose to take a family holiday during term time, this can    detrimentally impact a pupil’s progress and can prevent them from fulfilling their true academic potential. Our school attendance policy, available via our school website, clearly sets out the process that parents should follow if they wish to apply for leave during term time. Please note that applications should only be made, if you feel that there are exceptional circumstances which mean that the leave cannot be taken during the school holidays.                                                                                                      We would ask all parents to note that, where families choose to go on holiday during term time and the absences are coded as unauthorised, Essex County Council may not issue penalty notices and may instead proceed to prosecution and place the case directly before the Magistrates for their     consideration in court. If found guilty by the Magistrates, parents could face a fine of up to £2,500 and/or 3 months imprisonment.

Janet Duke Primary School operates a first day calling system.

If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please use the Studybugs APP to report it. This is the quickest and most efficient way to let us know.

If we have not heard from you by the start of school then the School Attendance Office will contact you to check the reason for your child's absence.

1 day off per school year = 99.5% attendance

10 days off per school year = 94.7% attendance

20 days off per year = 90% attendance

90% attendance in primary school means:

THEY WILL HAVE MISSED A WHOLE YEAR OF SCHOOL IN THEIR EDUCATION.

PUPILS WITH 90% OR BELOW ATTENDANCE WILL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE

EDUCATION WELFARE SERVICES.

Appointments can only be granted if supported by an appointment card. No child will obtain an authorised mark if taken out of school early without proof of the appointment.

If your child has sniffs or snuffles we are happy to administer medication prescribed or not. If your child is off for the whole week medical evidence MUST be provided or the attendance will automatically be unauthorised.

Wherever possible please make appointments out of school time. Please do not take off a whole day when half will do.

Please note if your child gets an unauthorised late mark this will affect their overall attendance. All children should be in class by 8.55. Lateness is detrimental to your child’s learning as they miss the vital part of the lesson.

Attendance is your legal responsibility.
