Autumn Term learning
We have really enjoyed working with the children and settling them into Year 2!
In English, children have had the pleasure of writing recipes based on “The Twits” by Roald Dahl, creative writing stories based on the book “Zog” and using our senses to write an Autumn poem. We are continuing to focus on Year 2 spelling words (please see attached on the class page) and letter formation in handwriting.
In Maths, children have been securing their knowledge of place value, learning different methods for addition and subtraction, how to use money and different charts in statistics. Children are building their confidence learning their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. They can also practice at home using Monster Multiplication on Purple Mash. We are also learning how to be fluent in Maths with weekly “Olympic challenges” which encourage quick recall of mental maths. We love it when the children can achieve mastery by answering challenge questions or explaining their reasoning to a partner.
In Science we have been learning about different materials and their properties and we know they will love trying out different experiments after half term.
In other subjects we have been learning how to play team games in P.E, how to use an atlas to find polar regions in Geography and making detailed charcoal drawings in Art. In Computing, children have been using Purple Mash to find out how the internet can present different ideas. Well done Onyx class!
We have had an impressive start to the year and look forward to continuing this next half term.
